Northwest Minnesota & the Red River Valley: what shapes the choice here
Northwest Minnesota’s Medicare question is often a border question. Fargo and Grand Forks hospitals serve much of the region, so a plan’s network has to reach across the state line, and Medicare supplements and Original Medicare do that automatically. Medicare Advantage networks here are thinner than in the metro, and UnitedHealthcare and HealthPartners trimmed their county footprints for 2026.
None of the northwestern counties are on the state’s Cost-plan list, so the choice is Medicare Advantage or Original Medicare plus a Minnesota Basic or Extended Basic supplement and a Part D plan.
